This picture is one of a typical Indian laborer. Although the lady probably toils away day and night, there is a certain cheerfulness & contentment on her beautiful face - at least definitely in the original photograph :-). This is what appealed to me the most. That, and of course the light on her face.

I enjoyed painting this one. Maybe the right half of the face needs more smoothening out. Isn't it quite a challenge to paint an open mouth :-) !

I painted this one from a travel magazine -- its some place in Bhutan. Looks like a monastery or a fortress .. Sure want to visit Bhutan sometime. Would be so quiet and serene set in the mountains like that. Indian artist Sanjeev Joshi is exhibiting his Bhutan sketches in Pune .. wish I could be there to take a close look at all of his fabulous work !

Wonder if the mountains on both the sides in the painting look too busy. Also, I ended up drawing the building right in the centre - realized it a little too late, tried to weigh it down to the right while painting ..

Afternoon at the temple

I did this one sometime in December - found this picture online of a temple somewhere in north india. I liked the mood set by the bright orange and the sunlight. I actually did a couple of these before I got to this one, but still not happy with it - not sure whats missing - maybe more work on the highlights on the building and the shadows in the foreground?
